This two-day seminar will provide a comprehensive overview of Biological Safety Cabinets through lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on laboratory work.

Participants will learn:

  • how Biological Safety Cabinets are constructed
  • how HEPA filters function
  • to identify different types of cabinets
  • to select the proper cabinet for work being performed
  • how microbiological aerosol tests are performed
  • to analyze performance envelopes
  • to exhaust different types of cabinets
  • to monitor cabinet airflow
  • to determine hazards associated with decontamination and certification
  • to decontaminate a cabinet
  • how all physical tests are performed
  • to use safety cabinets effectively
In addition to learning from course instructors, participants learn from each other. All presentations are interactive, encouraging class discussion. There is a special class dinner, a great time for networking with peers and instructors.

Biosafety Officers, Principal Investigators, Industrial Hygienists, Facility Engineers, Architects and Certifiers. No previous knowledge is necessary.

Instructors are from The Baker Company and include: David Stuart, PhD, Microbiologist; Scott Semle, Vice President; Martin Rogers, Supervisor of Microbiological Testing Lab and Ron Gingras, Engineering Technician.

Tuition is $795 per person and must be paid in full to guarantee a space in this class. Tuition includes a course manual, lunch each day, a special class dinner, and an Eagleson Institute Certificate.
