Patrick Condreay, PhD, RBP(ABSA)

Retired Biosafety Officer

BIOGRAPHY
Pat Condreay received his undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Rice University and his graduate degree in microbiology from the University of Texas at Austin. For over thirty years he pursued a career in research, studying the molecular biology of different systems. His interests varied from the study of bacteriophages and human pathogenic viruses to the development of recombinant viral-mediated gene delivery technology and its application to cell-based assay development. After a 28-year career with GlaxoSmithKline Pat retired as a Group Leader in the Biological Sciences division of GSK Molecular Discovery Research. He then pursued a career in biological safety, first as a consultant then as Biosafety Officer in the Human Vaccine Institute at the Duke University School of Medicine. Pat has been involved in training and education efforts for biosafety professionals for over 30 years. He is co-Leader of ABSA International’s flagship Principles and Practices of Biosafety course and has taught numerous courses on risk assessment, virology, and use of viral vectors. In 2005 Pat received the John H. Richardson Special Recognition Award from ABSA International and he is a Past President of the Association.
